Generally, patent leather requires simple care. Wiping it off with a damp cloth is a quick and easy way to clean off fingerprints and general dirt. If the dirt levels area heavy, apply a small amount of Windex and wipe it away with a clean, soft cloth or paper towel. Buff with a soft cloth when dry to restore the shine.

2. Removing Stains

  • Cotton balls or cotton swabs
  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
  • Tape

How to remove stains from patent leather:

If the dirt is actually a stain, it will likely require more advanced cleaning products. There are patent leather cleaners available at shoe stores that are designed to remove dirt and stains more effectively than water alone. Follow the application instructions on the package for correct use. Buff the area when finished with a clean, soft cloth to restore the shine.

Pen marks are another common problem with purses. Moisten a cotton ball or cotton swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Use it to gently rub the ink mark away. For general cleaning all you need is a little olive oil and a couple of soft cloths! Dip a cloth in the oil and rub it over the bag. Leave for 20 – 40 minutes, then wipe off with a clean cloth. This cleans the leather, keeps it from cracking or scuffing – and costs practically nothing.

Alternatively you can also use Vaseline or Mineral Oil. Put the good old petroleum jelly on a soft cloth, then rub the scuff marks until they go away.

To remove scuff marks from patent leather, rub them with a soft cloth moistened with milk.
